Misfortunes make Giants Chapter 6

(the thoughts and stories I share in Misfortunes make giants do not necessarily represent nor reflect those of Life pointe church.)

It was 1979, my mother was working in a factory. My parents came to this country with nothing in pursuit of a better future for their children. Little did they know God had a perfect plan for them and for their kids. At times it seems there is no plan and we’re part of this planet by chance. It feels like we are no more nor less then an insect. We merely exist for the sake of existing. But that isn’t the case. At the time my mother was also 9 months pregnant. She was but weeks away from her due date. Well it turned out that this factory was going to be raided by the Immigration. As we are all aware, there are many immigrants that come to this country in hopes to find a better future. That was the case for my mom and dad. Though i won’t get into details on my view of immigration, the reality is that many people are thinking of the future for their kids. The countries they come from are not the greatest economically. So they come here to work the jobs many wouldn’t even consider. Anyhow, so my mom was working at this factory in order to make ends meet at home. It just so happens that on this day her place of employment would be raided. Many of her friends would be deported, including others she did not even know. My mother shares with me that  she patiently waited in a room to either be arrested or deported. At the time my mother was not an American citizen and she did not have all the legal documents necessary. All she knew was that she had to do whatever necessary to survive and provide the promise for her kids.

The officer walked into the room and saw my mother. My mother recalls the woman looking at her,  she was dressed in her law enforcement attire. The woman looked at my mom’s belly, made eye contact with her and told her to leave and go home. My mother didn’t hide, runaway, nor retaliate. She walked out the front door. When God has a plan for you, there is no need to hide nor be scared. He will do the necessary for you to walk out the door. (Picture thousands of Israelites walking out the front door being led by Moses..thats crazy!!)  2 weeks later  after the raid, I was born. 28 years later I am here fulfilling the plan God has for my life, the plan he had way before I was even created. In family, In ministry, and in music!

A few weeks back I asked my mom what was her job at the factory back in 1979. She said she, “I made guitar cases”.

Dream Team

I just gotta say I love my job! I have always wanted to be part of something that is impacting the world. My job title will always be “world changer”. There is nothing else to prove other than Jesus is the ultimate rockstar and artists. He’s on the top charts every week. Being able to put together these videos have been amazing. Being part of such an amazing community is kick Butt! Homestead/Miami is growing on me. Leaving wasn’t easy, but I am get a glimpse here and there of where God is taking me. He knows the desires of my heart, and knows what he has to do to get me ready for that day. I wanna do everything possible in this life to please Christ! I want to leave an eternal legacy of Jesus when I leave earth so that Diego and the rest of my children can carry the torch towards the new generation.  Things may not always be clear but faith is. What bothers us, doesn’t bother him. What we fear is no fear for me. What seems impossible for us, for him…Please! God will use the one thing we feel is vital and dearest to us to build character and dependence on him. We depend way too much on our own strength. Our bodies are but a  complex shell. God designed you, every fibre, muscle, cell and bone. He knows how it works cause he designed it. Don’t stress it, he knows what you need, what you don’t and what you can do without. Thats a scary thought cause nothing is impossible for him, and we’re the one’s sent to make it happen. Mother Theresa once said, “I know God will not give me anything I can’t handle. I just wish that He didn’t trust me so much.”

Having said that it is an honor and a privilege  to be able to work with Travis and Paul. To be part of this dream team is totally humbling.  These guys are top notch scotch! fierce! No fear! Take no prisoners! I’ve learned so much from these dudes in the months I’ve been here then people have in years…sorry I had to say it that way! They’ve been my Bible/ministry school and mentors. Its great chill’n with Giants, cause you start walking like them, talking like them, and dreaming like them. Everything revolves around the mission Of Christ!  They’ ve been totally supportive of the dream, God’s dream for me that is. Thanks fellas. “have you seen the movie office space?” Our office is nothing like that! I’m pitching the idea of a pool table, grill, foos ball table and Imac’ everywhere, in our next office! ha

The Making of a Pro.

Carlos Santoyo Jr. Known to all as “CJ”. My nephew. When he was tiny he’d watch the bears games with his miniature helmet on and his winter gloves embracing his miniature pigskin underneath his arm. The kid is only 12 years old now and the kids his age fear him on the mound and on the batters box. He will destroy you on either one. When he steps up to bat his teamates in the dugout chant “BARRY—BONDS”.  When he plays first base, his body language is that of a Pro! He eats and breaths baseball!

It was Do or Die. The winner of this game moves on to the little league championship.  CJ pitched  a no hitter, a triple, a double, and a home-run out of the park. That guaranteed them the victory and a ticket to the championship. Championship game, CJ pitched 4 innings only giving up 2 runs. CJ led his team to a championship victory, making him the MVP, and taking home the game ball. If this ain’t a Pro in the making than I don’t know what is! I’m proud of you CJ.

So…

Dave Matthews says it best in his song “So much to Say”…This was an adventurous weekend. From my tire blowing out on the way to Orlando to driving back the “horror Interstate”. We got to spend time with the family in Orlando. Reina and I walked in downtown Disney reminiscing on our early dating years. It was great to get away and just chill. Grandma totally spoils Diego. We drove back Saturday night…I’d rather not talk about it. Set up was great, we had an amazing crew, lets do it again fellas!

Sunday was super cool and full of S..stuff. Worship was awesome, videos were great, Travis bailed out to go meet his son. What else..Oh yeah this.

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket I first got baptized when i was 14 years old, it was awesome and great, but I felt I had to do it again. I feel like I am stepping into a new dimension, a new season. Right before Jesus began his ministry he was baptized. I really feel as If I have begun my journey towards my destiny here in earth. Getting baptized totally initiated that for me on some level. It was an awesome experience, especially having Reina there and Diego as they both took part and witnessed my public voice. I tell my son every other day that he is going to change the world. My job is to leave a well lit torch for him and my other 4 kids to carry when we’re gone. Its all about leaving an eternal Legacy for Christ. I am speechless and humbled by being able to assist in the baptizing of the others, what an amazing experience over-all.

Sunday evening for the past few weeks, have been our very own “iron chef” before the show. Last week the secret ingredient was “POSOLE” , this week was homemade Burgers, this Sunday? hmmm not sure yet. Its been awesome Marcus and Terry! Lets keep the grill going! Did I hear “ribs?” haha

At around 11pm on Sunday night after 2 blackouts I got to finally read that Blake Matthew Johnson was born. I am so excited to finally meet that kid. Diego’s got a little partner to run around the theatre lobby with. Who knows they may start a band one day! Monday: Diego got his booster shots. It always sucks to sit there and watch your son get poked with a sharp needle. On the first shot, he didn’t feel a thing, “long live Sparta!!!” Now on the second one, Diego screamed bloody murder, the 3rd and 4th didn’t matter he was still feeling the 2nd one. I had to step out the room for the last 3shots. But then I rushed in, picked him up and told him everything is ok. He kept looking back at the nurse with his “get that lady away from me look”, He’s one tough kid! Can’t wait to have more!! haha.

One more thing, I set up a site meter for my blog page and I have either set it up wrong or really no one is reading my blogs. If there is someone out there please let me know. I HAVE A PRIZE FOR THE 50th COMMENT ON MY PAGE.  So if anyone is out there please let me know that my thoughts and words are not in vain! LOL oh yeah don’t forget to RSVP for our housewarming party.See you there.

fast and the furious

Everything except the “fast”, best describes our drive to Orlando. We decided to take a quick 2 day getaway to visit my mother-in-law in Orlando. Well 2 hours into our drive it felt as though there was a helicopter underneath our truck. I pulled over and to my surprise our rear tire was in shreds. I have never seen anything like it. It was as though an oversized can-opener did its thing on the tire. Craziness. Eventually it was taken care of. We still don’t know what happened? How? and When? Diego was up and alert during the whole thing. He was smiling and in peace. My wife well she’s always positive when disasters hit. I will admit was a little bothered but for the most part I was pretty mellow about the whole thing. It wasn’t easy but I did. About an hour later we were ready to hit the road again. We evenutally made it to Orlando and its been great spending time with the family. Sometimes disasters and obstacles seem to come out of nowhere. GOd always equips you with what you need to get through it. In my case I had an amazing wife and awesome Son! but as I say..Another story to tell. With her, there is always a way… somehow, I know there is a purpose behind everymove. I stopped in the middle of that field on the side of the road and in the midst of intimidating lightning, I thanked God for life and his grace. Diego was smiling through the whole thing. He’s not worried. As long as mommy and Daddy are in his sight everything will be ok. How much more us in Gods hands. What an amazing experience when you sit down, analyze and just know.
